SSF Walk 2011: promoting eduction in India, one small step at a time

Small Step Foundation is a non-profit public benefit volunteer corporation that I support.Their focus is promoting education and support rehabilitation of special need children by directly funding existing Not for profit organizations in India. This is from SSF website:

“If Not Us, Then Who? If Not Now, Then When?”
These were the guiding priniciples of the founders of Small Steps Foundation to take a collective action, our first step to make a positive difference in the lives of millions of helpless children who are deprived of their basic universal human right: Right to Education.

It is SSF walk time again!

Last year, I had posted about SSF walk and it is that time of the year again. A small SSF intro: It is a Bay Area based Non-Profit working to fund education projects in India. To raise funds, they are oragnizing a 5k/10k walk and, as always, the event is targeted towards a whole family experience. These are the details of the SSF 2010 Walk.

Parivaar

Parivaar was founded by this guy called Vinayak, who graduated out of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta, which are among the top 3 engineering and b-schools in India, and then decided to devote his life to uplifting the lives of children. He’s used all his education to good effect with Parivaar growing from 3 kids in 2003 to 250 odd kids now.

Surojit, a friend of mine, has been to the home which is on the outskirts of Kolkata and has this to say “its quite remarkable the change he’s making in not just the lives of the kids, but also of the community around the home. He started up a school in the home which is open to everyone in the neighborhood. Parivaar is also now reaching out to help out other charities, so that they can use the systems/processes that hes set in place at Parivaar. This is also a charity, where you know that there is no money spent on marketing, or salaries for officials. Vinayak gets no salary, he only pays the staff who run the home.” So you know your money will be well spent on the kids.

Small Steps Foundation

Recently, my sister and group of friends started the ‘Small Steps Foundation’. SSF is a Not for Profit organization working to raise money that will be used to fund young and upcoming NGOs in India.

The goal is to promote education and betterment of children. Currently they are funding Sshrishti, a Delhi based NGO helping kids growing up in the slums.
